As host to over 45 million tourists a year, Paris offers a wide range of accommodations at every price level at locations all across the city. There are youth hostels to be had at very low rates per night, and grand palace hotels that cost about the same per night as a month’s rent where I live and everything in between. In general, the main things to remember are book ahead, avoid peak tourist times (like Easter) and shop around. Quality and convenience can vary greatly within the same price range, so it is a good idea to read reviews and look at maps to find out exactly what you are getting before you book a room.

Paris is home to some of the grandest and most expensive hotels in the world. Some of the famous landmark hotels carry price tags of 600-800 euros per night and upwards.Though most of us can never afford this kind of luxury, it is perhaps worth it to splurge once or twice in a lifetime for such extravagance. A night at the Ritz or at one of the other palace hotels in Paris is an experience that will not likely soon be forgotten.

However, many charming and luxurious hotels can be found in the heart of Paris for much less, there are scores of hotel rooms in the 100 - 200 euro range that are more than adequate for most and that are conveniently located near the tourist attractions Paris is famous for. Many of these are older hotels with a distinctive Parisian flavor and atmosphere, but there are modern hotels in this range that may be a bit more comfortable for some tourists.

Youth hostels and budget hotels are available for the penny-pinching tourist - Paris need not be an ultra-expensive destination if you are a savvy budget-minded traveler. There are possibilities in every price range in the City of Light. One way to experience Paris in comfort and luxury is to find a good hotel just out of the centre that does not cost quite as much as the more centrally located, more expensive ones. An example would be the Hilton Hotel Paris la Defense which is located just west of the centre and is still an easy walk from many of the attractions in the centre. The Hotel la Defense has all the amenities you’d expect from a Hilton hotel at prices less than you might expect from a Paris luxury hotel.
